Kimmy Peterson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#91308) and co-founder of Sonoma Valley Family Therapy.  She has a diverse background collaborating successfully with families of many different circumstances since (2004).  While she has established herself working in private practice with adolescents, adults, couples and families, her experience is broad and brings depth to her fundamental skills as a local therapist.  Throughout her career, she has worked with survivors of domestic violence, at risk youth, families reunited from long term treatment programs, individuals and families in shelter situations, as well as, reuniting families from custody placements and Juvenile Hall.  Having fostered her career in these various settings, Kimmy’s unique experience brings a well-rounded view to the practice and has allowed her to become a dynamic and sympathetic professional in the field.

Therapy is a deeply personal experience.  There are many points of transition, uncertainty and challenge in each of our lives.  In these times, it is common to feel overwhelmed and unsure.  These challenges can be best navigated with the help of a trusted professional.  It can be hard to ask for help but having the strength to reach out can often be the best step to take in working through many issues that we are confronted with.  I would be honored to take your hand and provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where you can begin to work through the therapeutic process.  I will guide you on a path of self-discovery and teach you how to access your inner strengths.  Together, we will create balance and inner peace so that you can be in a healthy relationship with yourself and others.

I have training and experience in several methods of therapy that allow me to provide individual treatment depending on the needs of the individual. These include a Mindfulness, Family-Systems-based approach, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic and Narrative Therapy and Strengths-based therapy.

My specialties include working with adolescents, young adults, couples and families. I have worked with individuals in life transitions, individuals discovering their identity and sexuality, marital/relationship strain, divorce, family conflict, learning disabilities, anxiety, insomnia, depression, stress, adolescent pressures, and grief.
