Kimmy Peterson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and co-founder of Sonoma Valley Family Therapy. With a wealth of experience working with a diverse clientele since 2004, she has built a reputation for helping individuals and families navigate complex life circumstances. Kimmy’s extensive background includes working in both the non-profit sector and private practice with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She brings depth to her work through her broad range of experiences.

Over the years, Kimmy has supported survivors of domestic violence, at-risk youth, families reuniting after long-term treatment programs, individuals and families in shelter programs, as well as those rebuilding relationships after custody placements or time in Juvenile Hall. This varied experience has shaped her into a compassionate and dynamic therapist, well-equipped to guide clients through difficult challenges.

Therapy as a Personal Journey

Therapy is a deeply personal process. Most often we need to seek help during times of transition, uncertainty, and difficulty. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed when facing these challenges, but working with a trusted professional can provide the guidance needed to move forward. Kimmy understands that reaching out for help can be difficult, but she believes that it is one of the most powerful steps you can take in working through life’s challenges.

She would be honored to support you through this process, offering a safe, non-judgmental, and compassionate space to begin the therapeutic journey. Together, you’ll explore your inner strengths, create balance, and work toward lasting peace—so you can build healthier relationships with yourself and others.

Approach to Therapy

Kimmy uses a variety of therapeutic approaches to meet the unique needs of each individual, including Mindfulness, Family-Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Humanistic and Narrative Therapy, and Strengths-based Therapy. By tailoring her approach, she ensures that treatment is personalized, effective, and aligned with your goals.
